Overview

Type PH15-7Mo is an austenitic-martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel developed from 17-7PH by replacing 2% chromium with 2% molybdenum. Hence, it has similar basic properties like 17-7PH steel, but has better overall performance.

Features of Inox PH15-7Mo

PH15-7Mo features high strength and elasticity while maintaining good plasticity and weldability, hence, it is widely used in air compressors for intake and exhaust valves, thermostats, springs, etc. With the continuous development of industrial products and household appliances such as automobiles, motorcycles, air conditioners, air compressors, refrigerators, etc., it not only poses high requirements on the mechanical properties of PH15-7Mo materials, but also has strict requirements for high precision of its products. PH15-7Mo obtains precipitation strengthening phase Ni3Al by adding aluminum and achieves its high strength performance by adopting heavy reduction (more than 60%) method in cold working

Workability

Unlike the strengthening mechanism of austenite, precipitation hardening stainless steel, due to its low nickel content, can be heat treated to form an unstable austenite or even martensite. Then adopt aging treatment to precipitate intermetallic compounds (such as Ni3Al) and strengthen the metal. After strengthening, the tensile strength can reach 1250~1600MPa.

PH15-7Mo can withstand various cold forming and welding processes in the austenitic state. It can also be used in high temperature applications. After heat treatment, it gives excellent mechanical properties at 482 °C. Below 550 °C, PH15-7Mo exhibits excellent high temperature strength.

PH15-7Mo Applications

  • 1) Manufacturing aerospace thin-walled structural parts and various containers;
  • 2) Pipe, spring, diaphragm;
  • 3) Ship shaft, compressor disk;
  • 4) Reactor components;
  • 5) Structural parts such as various chemical equipment;
  • 6) Others.
