Overview

316Ti is a type of austenitic stainless steel; it is a derivate of 316 stainless steel with titanium stabilization. In theory, 316Ti is to type 316 what 321 is to type 304. Titanium is added to 316 stainless so as to enhance intergranular corrosion resistance following heating under the temperature range of 425-815C.

Features of Inox 316Ti

For higher-carbon austenitic stainless steels, titanium can be added as a stabilizing element to decrease the formation of chromium carbides. As a result, it improves the resistance to aqueous corrosion in the welding sections which can happen to stainless steel grades of higher carbon content.

Some might ask,” 316L is a lower carbon version of type 316, why have to choose 316Ti at higher cost? ” Though in some occasions these two grades (316L and 316Ti) are used alternatively, they are not perfect substitutes to each other. As a matter of fact, 316Ti features better pitting resistance, tensile strength and yield strength than 316L. For special tools or equipment exposed to strong acid corrosion environment such as pickling tanks and support frames, 316Ti is a must.

316Ti Applications

  • 1) Equipment that resists sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid, and acetic acid;
  • 2) Petrochemical;
  • 3) Mechanical and electrical hardware;
  • 4) Shipyard;
  • 5) Power plant;
  • 6) Others.
