Overview & Features

15-5PH is a martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel with good workability and strength, as well as excellent mechanical properties. It is resistant to general corrosive environment. Its toughness, ductility, hardness and corrosion resistance are comparable with 304 stainless steel. 15-5PH can be processed under various conditions, but it has the best service life under the H1150M condition. 15-5PH has excellent transverse toughness and ductility; it is highly malleable. Its processing properties are similar to those of other precipitation hardened stainless steels. Age hardening can be realized in one step through low temperature heat treatment. This material is used for parts that require high lateral strength and toughness.

Use Conditions of Inox 15-5PH

15-5 PH exhibits excellent antioxidant performance under the environment below 593°C. Long-term exposure to elevated temperatures will reduce the toughness of precipitation hardened stainless steel while aging temperature can mitigate the reduction at times. If the maximum temperature is 28°C lower than the aging temperature, the material can be exposed to this high temperature for a short time. For the high temperature of 700°C, 15-5PH is sufficient for use, because it is an austenitic heat-strength steel. However, it is not advisable to be used at temperatures exceeding 750°C.

Solution Treatment

15-5PH can be done with heat treatment, also known as solution treatment, that is, heating it to 1000°C or more, then preserving the heat for a certain period of time and water quenching it, after that, doing the aging treatment at a temperature 60 to 100°C higher than the use temperature.
