Overview

Stainless steel 444 is a ferritic stainless steel of high chromium (17.5%~19.5%), and also it possesses dual stabilized rare elements titanium and niobium [(Ti + Nb): 0.20+4(C+N) ~0.80%], which makes it similar to stainless steel 441 in some respects. They both features good corrosion resistance, and deep drawing ability. However, type 444 has lower carbon content (0.025% at maximum) and extra addition of molybdenum (1.75%~2.50%). 444 stainless steel has lower chance of sensitization during welding than grade 316. Plus, type 444 can withstand high temperature without losing its strength or durability, though less strong than austenitic stainless steel 304 and 316. In comparison with 316L grade which is more used for low-temperature applications, type 444 is typically selected for high-temperature applications. Welcome to Civmats Co. Features of 444 Stainless Steel

444 stainless steel features excellent corrosion resistance, matchable to that of marine grades 316/316L, which keeps it from rusting when exposed to water or salty water. Its pitting and crevice corrosion resistance are also superior to most ferritic stainless steels. This makes type 444 quite competent in applications where outstanding corrosion resistance and resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking are required. Meanwhile, 444 stainless steel boasts superior formability and deep drawing ability, readily spin formed. However, stretch forming is restricted for use.
